I always wear basketball shoes when I run. Is it good to run in them because it helps with training. Like in DBZ, when Goku wears wegihts on his shoes to help him train.

  1. It's good that you are running, but the two shoes are of very different design.  It's about protecting your joints.  You may not necessarily see much difference in speed right away, but you will be able to run longer and more comfortably in well-fitting shoes.

  2. yes it creates more traction.

  3. I doubt it makes much of a difference. There is only basicly two differences in basketball shoes than regular gym shoes.

    1.) More ankle support.

2.) Better traction for indoor floors.

But if you compare them to track shoes I bet there is a difference...just not much of one.

  4. Basing your training on an anime character isn't a good way to train.

Basketball shoes are good for playing basketball.  They are designed for ankle support and making it easy to change directions quickly.  However, they have little cushioning to protect your joints.  Running shoes are horrible for playing basketball but great for protecting your joints.  Run in running shoes.  If the workout isn't hard enough run longer or faster. Also, don't add ankle weights either that's another way to get injured.

Also, as another poster pointed out, if you are a basketball player, be careful about running too much distance.  Endurance running will hurt your ability to jump.

  5. yes

thats like saying are football boots better than  ordinary shoes.Basketball shoes are designed for basketball running shoes are designed for running

    hope this helps !!!

  6. Runner58 knows what she is talking about.

  7. Basketball shoes are definitely heavier. Therefore, it would make you run slower. I suggest buying running shoes. They will help you with training. It's more important to have a good speed and pace. Maybe occasionally you can run in basketball shoes but I think you'll find that once you run in running shoes, you won't want to wear anything else. Good luck with your training.

  8. Definitely the BB shoes are heavier which are going to put more strain on your knees.  Same bad things as wearing ankle weights when walking or running.  If you are running long distances, I would look for a lighter shoe.

If you are running to train for basketball and are running long distances, then it is time not to reevaluate the shoes, but the training.  Long distances will actually change your fast twitch muscles into slow twitch.  Instead look to do shuttles.  Put 2 cones 25 yds away and do some runs. Do like a 1-400; 2-300; 3-200; 4-100; and 5-50.  Do a 1:1 work rest ratio in same distances and 2-3 minutes between distances.  Really work on the stops and the accelerations out of the cones.  This is less than 1.5 miles of work but will do a lot more than running mileage.  Basketball is a fast twitch sport with lots of change of direction; distance running is possibly the worst thing you can do.

Of course if you don't play basketball and you just like how the shoes feel on your feet, then that is a whole 'nother story:)

    Good Luck!
