  1. yes, and sleeping makes you taller, but both are generally temporary. a lot of runners aren't exactly the shortest people around

  2. Yeah but dont be to concerned cause its not noticable. My dad ran a lot of marathons and he's 6' 4" (yeah pretty tall) It may be like 1cm or so if you do get shorter.

  3. It does not make you shorter, but you lose some weight.

  4. I have two links for you to read. The answer to your question is yes. However, it is not like you are loosing inches off your height. After you run a marathon you can loose up to 2 cm from your height.

"Running causes your spine to compress and Running intermittently compresses the spine as the weight of the body above any one segment of the spine comes down upon the lower segments when your feet hit the ground. However, intermittent loading is beneficial in that it stimulates bone mineral deposition, which can be helpful in building bone mass and preventing osteoporosis."

"When you finish running a marathon you height is lower than when you started. Every step you take is the equivalent of 2-3 times your bodyweight and its estimated that because of this you end the race up to 2cm shorter than when you started."

So the short answer is yes it can make you shorter but its not permanent, you go back to your normal height!
