  1. Salt is not as flammable as sugar, but it can still melt.  The reason sugar burns so easily is because of the ability to easily break down the carbons and turn them into energy.  Normal table salt NaCl has no carbons, and is not combustible by the same methods, chemically.

  3. Sucrose sugar (normal "table sugar") melts at 186oC. Since it is combustable, you would need to keep it in an oxygen-free environment to be able to heat it this high without it burning - but it DOES melt.

    NaCl (sodium chloride "table salt") melts at 801oC, and it does not burn (as it is not combustible).
