Does satellite internet have latency issues, and if so will it affect online gaming?

I've recently had to get satellite internet because of where i live. I read somewhere that latency is an issue with satellite internet and am hoping against this because i recently bought WOW and would obviously like to play it. cheers

Yes, there will be latency issues in this kind of situation because it takes time to go out 25,000 miles to the fixed position orbits (synchronous) and return.    The delay can be seen on the evening news when the anchor asks a question of the guy or gal in Bagdad and he/she looks dumb for a second or 3.    (1 second round trip in link below)

  2. Yes there will be a time lag.

    The signal takes a long time to travel to the satellite and back.

    You get similar lag on phone lines, when you phone the other side of the world.
