I just got my first tattoo and it is now fully healed and I was wondering if it were true that scented lotions can cause problems with tattoos, such as fading or any other type of problems.

  1. If it was a newer tattoo, then definitely don't use scented lotions, they contain alcohol which helps keep the scented fragrance on the skin longer. And alcohol can hurt a new tattoo buy causing excessive drying or extra scarring.

However if it's an older tattoo, it should be OK, I have tattoos on both wrists and I use scented lotion daily and I haven't seen any changes to them, and it's been over a year.

It depends too on if you have really sensitive skin.

  2. if its fully healed then its fine. I have tons of tattoos and use scented lotion all the time( jus tnot during the healing period)

  3. Fragrance can cause irritation.  There are all kinds of products that people suspect have drawn out some of their ink, but some people use the same products and don't have the same outcome.  I waited about 6 weeks or so until I started using scented lotions.  Every once in a while I'll use one that will cause my tattoo to itch and become raised and it's a year old now.

  4. If its healed it wont get harmed, just treat it like your regular skin, if you have always used scented lotions without problems, then go ahead... its inside of your skin now, forever.
