Does serial numbers work with cameras?

i lost a very expensive camera. someone stole it from home.( burgllerd) but he didnt take the box! there's a serial number on the box how can it help>?

Well its very minor, but you can add the serial number to the police report.  If the thief tries to get money from a pawn shop or a camera store, they will probably run the serial number to see if it was stolen.  If it shows up as recently stolen, they will have to return it to the police as well as any information about the person who brought it in.  However, most crooks have learned this and go through other methods to get money from stolen property.  You can always check eBay for listings of your stolen camera, with a priority on items located close to you.  Also check out Craigslist that would be your area to see if it appears.  You can ask them to send you a sample picture and compare the embedded serial number to the serial number of your stolen camera.  Unfortunately, there is little else you can do.

  3. no unless u have a suspect who has the camera and swears it his, then u bust out the SN n catch him, unless u have someone ur screwed.
