  1. If your air conditioner is running properly and you can make yourself leave it on 74or75 in the summer and 64 or 65 in the winter, you will save buckets of money.Raising it higher will save money on a consistent basis.

  2. Set Your Thermostat Wisely

    "Set It And Forget It"

Fina a comfortable setting and don't adjust it. It takes a long time to remove the heat from inside your home.

If you have a programmable thermostat, it's best to use the"Hold" mode during the summer.

  3. A rough rule of thumb is that the amount of energy required for cooling (or heating in the winter) is proportional to the difference between the inside and the outside temperature.

For example, if you set the thermostat at 75 deg and it is 95 deg outside, there is a difference of 20 deg. Changing the thermostat to 76 deg would make a difference of 19 deg, so it would take 19/20th as much energy to cool, or about 5 % less.  Please note that this is a rough rule --- things are actually a bit more complicated.

  4. It's not that much of a difference at all, maybe a few bucks.
