I have a chihuahua, that looks nothing like the ones I have seen...is she full blown Chi, or could she be a mix?

  1. It would take putting my hands on her to tell if she fit the breed standard, but, from the pictures, she looks more like a rat terrier to me.

  2. She could be a pure Chihuahua. It's difficult to tell structure in those photos. If you could share a full side profile photo of her stacked it would be much easier to decide.

I don't think her length of leg looks too extreme.  If she seems tall maybe it's because she's straight in the front and the rear.  She certainly appears to have a straight rear in that one photo.  Lack of angles (straight front/rear) can easily add to the heighth of a dog.

Ten inches really isn't that tall but of course I've seen plenty of Chihuahua's and they're not all the same size.

  3. Her face looks like a Chi, but her body does not.  She's awfully cute though.  While I was looking at the Chi pictures, I stumbled across a boxer picture and the title said something about Ayla.  Is that your boxer's name?  My last dog was named Ayla.  She was a golden cross that lived from 1989 to 2005.

  4. She's a  chihuahua. Nice applehead, alittle leggy though. I'd guess she's purebred, just not to standard.

Thanks to indiscriminate breeding, most chihuahuas aren't to standard anymore.

  5. actually she kinda looks like a Rat terrier but the face reminds me of Chihuahua, so I would say a Chi/Rattie mix

  6. She could well be purebred, but a very poor example as regards type. Mainly it's because her body proprtions are all wrong - her body should be longer than she is high, yours has legs which make her look like an Italian Greyhound.

As long as she's healthy, I wouldn't worry.

  7. I know nothing about breed standards, but I just wanted to say that I think the Italian Greyhound X Chi mix is a good guess. When we were looking for doggie number 2; we went and looked at a dog that was an IG x Maltese mix (cutest thing ever...supposedly a breeder oops). He looked just like a Maltese, except with long legs and a long body (I think IG's mixed tend to take on the look of the breed they are mixed with). Wish I could find a pic of that little guy...he was adorable (we didn't bring him home because he was terrified of us and Lacie...wouldn't even let us pet him). I think his owner was able to find him a one person only home :)

  8. Looks pure to me. BTW, that's a beautiful pit you have.

  9. She is a chi.

    I have the same one.

  10. ~ She looks like a Rat Terrier with those legs.

I would say Chihuahua/Rat Terrier mix or Chihuahua/Italian Greyhound mix.

I saw a Chi/Iggy mix the other day and it has the same lean body, long legs but coloring and closer facial features of a chi.

  11. Doesn't fit the standard, but she still looks like a chi to me.  Just like the majority of purebred dogs out there... not quite up to "standard."  Is she AKC?

My 2 boxers look nothing alike... yet they're both purebred boxers.

  12. Yes, I agree with Fetch. Her legs are a bit longer then a chi's leg length would be. More a long the lines of a rat terrier/chi mix.  How old is she by the way?

  13. she looks like a chi to me? course i'm no chi expert but she looks like a chi.

    lol. marc that's a boxer..

  14. from the pictures she looks like a chi to me.
