Does shifting into "Park" at lights save gas?

Question

Because of the gas prices, I find myself doing anything to save gas. One thing I do is "park" at stop lights. (Most of the lights where I live are rather long). I know leaving the engine running still uses gas, but does it make a difference, as opposed to just stepping on the brake while in "drive"?

I drive a 2009 Toyota Corolla, if that makes a difference.

No it doesn't save gas.

No. Over time it may cause some wear on your transmission.

If anything slide it into neutral.

I think that would cause extra "wear and tear" on the transmission.

watch your tachometer.

if the needle goes up, you're burning more fuel.

if the needle goes down, you're burning less fuel.
