  1. To some degree.  You'll have the feeling of going up and down from either one, but when snowboarding, you hold your edge going up the walls.  Not as common in skateboarding.  If you lose your edge whether you want to or not in snowboarding you'll either A) Wash out, B) Not make it up, or C) potentially getting tossed up and landing flat on top.

You can also kick away your skateboard, but not a snowboard.

In my opinion, pipe is overrated.  I hate all those people who ask me if I ride pipe like Shaun White.  I live in an area where most people don't know anybody else.  I could care less about him.  IMO, boxes, rails, and kickers are more fun.  You can do just about anything in a pipe, off a jump.  SW isn't a bad rider, but he certainly isn't the best.

It's not too hard getting into snowboarding.  You're never too young or old.  In fact, I think you're at a good age.  You can fall and not get hurt easily, you aren't as weak as a younger kid, and you can probably focus better too.

Just make sure you're doing it for the right reasons, not because everybody else is and it's the "cool thing" to do.

I'd say if you progress fast and commit, you'll be able to start in the park your second season.  You won't really be able to ride pipe until you get the feeling of a carve, so I'd say pipe in your third of fourth season.

Trust me, pipe isn't as fun as fooling around on a box.  You can do all sorts of wacky things, and if it's not high up, falling won't be too bad.

  2. I've been skateing vert since I 6.  It is totally different to skate vert because its more smooth and flat.  You have to be good at snowboarding to be good at super pipes or normal pipes.  I just started pipes and I sucked!! I am really good at jumps and rails, but halfpipes are a whole different deal.

  3. the pipes are different but couldn't hurt to do both.  Snowboard pipes obviously go down hill.  because of that they arent vert, but are close.  Sk8board pipes are vert because you don't have to make it downhill.

  4. if you are a good skateboarder I'm sure you will get the hang of it pretty easily, but I think skating vert ramps help snowboarding in the halfpipe personally so I'm not sure about snowboarding helping skating

  5. I'm sure it would b similar i taught my friend who was 14 how to snowboard in about 2 days it would be easier to know how to snowboard if you can skate Ive been snowboarding for 10 years and it was easy for me to learn how to skateboard so i think it would be easy for a 14 year old to learn how to snowboard

  6. i dont think i can answer the first half as i dont skate. snowboard pipes are made of snow and go down hill so im not sure how similar to skate pipes.

as for getting into it... it took me about 3 days to learn when i was 16. after those three days i fell alot less and was able to do both greens and blues pretty well (in colorado) blacks came later, and tricks after that. 2 years and im doing alittle bit of everything and can handle most of the mountain. i assume it would work about the same for you as a 14 year old.

EDIT: well if you listen to SW he says that although the sports are similar they are still very different. the small things can change a trick completely from one sport to another. He works very hard to be good in both sports and not just one. most people cant do that or arent driven enough to do that.  if youre picking up snowboarding just to get better at skateboarding i wouldnt suggest it cuz theyre too different.  pick up snowboarding only if you want to snowboard.
