  1. If working-class kids have less academic potential, it's only because they're forced to overcome more obstacles - NOT some genetic inferiority that plagues them from birth. That's ridiculous.

  2. In short yes- your class does depend on where you may or may not go to university. But this isnt to do with intellegence- its to do with btter starts in life. People in the upper classes can have better resources, more time and less worries. Those in lower classes dint have these sorts of oppertunities. Not to mention private schooling and tutors who can teach all that a child needs to know. Simple

  3. yes...if parents are rich ...have more money and are able to afford tutors..usuaally kids do better in school or are able to pay for expensive colleges.

  4. Social mobility is entirely possible for people to move from lower social class to upper social class, if the both father and mother works full time, and they save money to send their child/ren to university then the child becomes middle class, despite coming from lower social class.

Bill Clinton came from a poor lower class family. But because he was a very clever student and was lucky enough to win win a Rhodes Scholarship, he is where he is today. So being clever and lucky enough to win a scholarship can certainly give one a chance.

Statistics have shown that the higher the education you have the higher your wage is.

However with out one you can't have the other. So in essence if you in the lower social class, your chance of gaining higher education is reduced, but not impossible.

There has been some debate that there is a difference between the social classes and IQ recently, supposedly the higher your social class the higher your IQ, I think this has yet to be proven.

You may find the top link interesting as this explains what Marx and Weber say on social class and mobility between social classes.

  5. Yes, generally speaking, a person born in lower social class is less academic potential becaz s/he is exposed to such an environment and limited vision that limits a person's thinking. Think about generally. 90% of kids born in high class attain high educational status and 90% of poor kids dont attain. Check out what percentage of students studying in Harvard/London School of Economic are poor? Hardly 2 %. So what's conclusion? Rich gets richer and poor remains poor finacially and academically. Plz dont incluse EXCEPTIONAL PEOPLE like Abrahim Lincoln who born in poor classes reach to apex and rule the world. These are exceptions only.
