  4. Yes it does. Soil contains several nutrients that are essential for plant growth. Each nutrient plays a different role in plant functioning and development and produces distinct effects when deficient in the soil. Water is a key one, but there are more.

    Nitrogen = Helps give proper leaf growth and color.

    Phosphorous = helps develop roots, steams, flowers and seeds. (grow)

    Potassium = synthesizes proteins and carbs.

    Magnesium = synthesizes chlorophyll.

    Calcium = helps cell growth and division
