Hi, my wife and I moved to las vegas almost 2yrs ago. Belive it or not we do not know the surroundings that much. We would like some advise on:

4x4 primitive camping.

4x4 trails (where no ranger will fine me, I swear I did not know that was a protected area)

If you want to do some 4x4, or some camping involving some 4x4 contact me. None of my friends have 4x4 vehicles ...

TKS!!! and best regards

  1. Bitter Springs Road is an awesome and legal drive through a desert wilderness.  Its BLM land and you can camp anywhere there for free.  However, while most of it could be classified as light-medium, there are a few really rough spots.  If you google it, you will find some posted descriptions of it.  One end starts near Valley of Fire State Park and the other end is at the North Shore Road in Lake Mead.  The drive passes a lot of scenic sandstone and other kinds of rock formations.  Last time I did it I saw an entire herd of bighorn sheep.  If you're into 4-wheeling and have even the slightst interest in geology, you may want to join the Southern Nevada Mineral and Gem Society - they take trips out in the desert all the time.

Actually, while Bitter Springs is great for fall, winter, and spring, you might want to check out Wheeler Pass this summer.  One end is in Cold Creek and the other is in Pahrump.  Its a higher elevation journey so its cooler.

My vehicle needs some work done on it and I've got too much other things going on to go out anytime soon.  Have fun!
