Does someone know how to translate this to English? (From Japanese)?

本当に古い画像

What does this mean in English? >_<

And, is this Kanji, Hiragana, Katakana, and/or Romaji, and how can you distinguish between them? (As in, how do you know what symbol would be Kanji, etc?)

Thanks in advance for any answers at all.

  1. As people above said, it means 'A really old picture'

    本当 - This is kanji

    に - This is hiragana

古い - This is a mixture of kanji and hiragana (it is an adjective. The forms of adjectives can change which is why they need the hiragana ending to indicate things like tense)

画像 - This is kanji again

In general kanji are complicated, but that isn't always true. For example, 一 is a kanji meaning one. Basically, once you have learnt your hiragana and katakana, the kanji will stand out.

  2. well it means really 'really old pics'

im pretty sure its katakana cuz hiragana tends to be more fluid in riting and kanji is more complicated. romanji is when u translate j*p words in2 roman letters.

  3. It says- "Truly old picture"

You can tell katakana because they're straighter-

    ex- カ(Ka)

      キ(Ki)

      マ(Ma)

    Hiragana are curved-

    ex- か(Ka)

      き(Ki)

      ま(Ma)

Romaji are english letters- like these. ^_^

And kanji are complex, unlike hiragana.

    白い(shiroi)- white (い is hiragana i)

    時間(jikan)- hour

  4. It means "really old image (or picture)" and it's a combination of hiragana and kanji.

There are only about 50 each of hiragana and katakana, so if you memorize them, you can tell kanji by elimination.

Also, kanji is usually made up of more strokes and look more complicated than hiragana or katakana.
