Does someone know if scientists can predict hurricane formations now, happening in October?

Going to the Mayan Riviera for a week for holidays in the middle of Oct. and we don't want to risk it....

October is the last month of hurricane season, so there should not be too much activity to worry about. They cannot predict hurricane formations from now, what they can do is let you know what areas are more prone for development. I do believe that the Gulf and the western atlantic begin to calm down by then as the water temperature cools. but to be sure, once hurricane Dean passes, check the weather channel they have maps letting you know the averages of storms that have formed in each region in the past 100 years.
