  1. no think of it as a recording studio,its surrounded by that foam,witch bounces it off and absorbs some of it.


  2. Sound cannot travel through a vacuum so therefore if there is not air, no sound transmitted. At the same time sound can travel through solids and liquids.

  3. Not necessarily. Sound absorbing materials are usually foam which do permit air to go through them.  Usually sound proofing relies on sufficient amount of sound absorbing materials, not how airtight the room is.
