  1. No.  You can't do online seat assignment, since Southwest doesn't have assigned seating.

The best thing you can do to get a window seat is check in online exactly 24 hours before the flight, so you can get into Group A.  This is the first group they let on the flight.  Then you can try to get a window seat.  Get to the gate early, as there will be lots of other people in Group A waiting in the line to get the good seats.

Update:  I had previously said check in at 12:01am the day of the flight.  That's how it used to work a few years back.  I changed my answer above to say 24 hours before the flight, since that's how it works now.

  2. i know for a fact that jetblue lets you pick your seat online. i booked a flight 2 weeks ago and they let me pick my seat.

  3. No, you group in by A B and C, first come first serve

  4. No, actually on Southwest they don't even have assigned seating. You just have to sit wherever you can when you get on. I flew southwest and almost didnt get to sit with my little sister but people were nice enough to move for me.

  5. I just got my boarding passes online a few minutes ago. The way it works is: exactly 24 hours before your flight (ie. our flight is tomorrow at 6:30 am therefor I logged on today at 6:30 am)you go to southwest.com and click on the CHECK IN ONLINE tab on the page. You need to have your CONFIRMATION NUMBER AND FIRST AND LAST NAME. Your confiramtion number came in the email southwest sent you (ticketless confirmation was the subject). At exactly that 24 hours prior you enter the confirmation number and name and click on GO. If you are too early it gives you a message to try again at the correct time. If you try today you can see how it looks and practice. It just won't let you do it for real until the 24 hrs before. So at 6:29 I enterend the number and name and at 6:30 I clicked the go. The boarding pass(es) pop up on your screen and you print them. I got group A (there are group A,B, and C). I think that if you waited to get to the airport you would be sure to be in group C, just a guess. The 'rules' say that it has to be 24 hours to 1 hour before. On that same email from southwest (ticketless confirmation) is a little PICTURE OF AN AIRPLANE SEAT and if you click on the link it takes you to a really easy PICTURE TUTORIAL of how THE BOARDING PROCESS WORKS AT THE AIRPORT. On the page with the columns click on the green and it shows the picture people boarding. Kinda cute.  Good luck and have a great flight.

  6. southwest operates on a first come, first serve basis. they do not assign seats. if you want a window seat just get there a bit early and you should be fine.

  7. No but when you check in (up to 24 hrs before your flight) the earlier you are the better boarding pass you get.  Normally if you're by yourself you won't have a problem getting a seat you like.

  8. When you check in online, you are given a boarding group and position number. You will be in group A B or C, number anywhere between 1-60. This is just for the boarding procedure, once onboard you can choose any open seat you like. In order to get the best possible choice, you want to check in online exactly 24 hours before your flight.

  9. If you go on southwest airlines you get to choose WHATEVER seat you want on the plane... not even kidding

its kinda a first come first serve basis... whoever is first at the airport gets to choose whatever seat they want [in their class]

when they get on the airplane...

I know it is soo cool!

I choose the window seat too.. but what is a real bummer is that they don't have inflight movies on most flights =/

but they give you really cool snackboxes instead with GOOD FOOD actually !

  10. yes you have to do the night before ~
