Does soy cause fertility problems? Can I have one cup of tea while 12 weeks pregnant without worrying?

Specifically, edemame (soy beans). I want some, but I want more children. I am also 12 weks pregnant. I don't think it could cause problems for the baby, but could it?

I have chocolate sometimes, but no cola, coffee or tea. I would really like a cup of tea every couple days. Is that selfish?

  1. My doc said 1 to 2 cups of cola, coffee, tea etc a day wont hurt the baby so drink away... As for the Edemame i have no clue you might want to look it up

  2. Soy is absolutely safe in pregnancy. There are no worries at all... in fact it is encouraged especially as a calcium rich food (fortified) instead of regular dairy if you are having morning sickness.

Up to 2 cups of coffee everyday is shown to be perfectly acceptable in pregnancy. So having a cup here and there is just fine. Not to worry, you are not being selfish.

  3. up to 12 weeks, I watched my caffeine intake. After the 12 weeks I drank what caffeine drink I wanted. (no energy drinks though) I am now 37 weeks and everything is fine.
