Does stainless steel give off ions when you eat stuff with it?

  1. Very very few.  More than glass, but much less than nearly anything else.  Cast iron pans release some ferrous and ferric ions during cooking, but they are usually harmless, and can be beneficial.  Aluminum cookware (especially when coated with Teflon, an aluminum compound) releases aluminum ions, which are toxic.  We learned that by watching our children's faces turn red after eating food cooked in aluminum pots.  No such problem has been identified with stainless steel.
