If I have a 12 yr bottle of scotch and it sits in my bar for 5yrs. Does the beverage gain anything from the 5 yrs? Would the bottle now be 17yr?

  1. The only way that it'll be affected is if you opened it and let air in, closed it, and then let it sit for 5 years. Then it would probably oxidize a little resulting in it tasting harsh and crappy.

  2. Some drinks are aged, but scotch should be used right away.

  3. No. "Aging" in distilling terms refers to time stored in aging casks or barrels, your scotch does not improve w/ age in the bottle.
