I notice when I punch, I can feel my tummy twisting back and forth when throwing left and right continuisly. So I'm thinking, If i got stronger abs, I can twist my upper body faster, would that make me punch faster?

  1. regardless of what your told ,the perfect punch comes from the hip and lower stomach !!on the twist , keep working that muscle ,also good for taking punches also ,importantly you must train the lower back alkongside the stomach muscles ,its all combined .

  2. I should imagine so, I once overdone it and sprained my abs, even picking something up with your arm as stupid as a plate hurt my abs so It must be all connected in some way.

Also if you are going into boxing or whatever you are punching at its better to get stronger abs anyway for less injury.

  3. yes, power for punching comes from the pivoting of your feet and the twisting of your hips. if you have more core strength you will be able to punch harder. also as you punch more and more you will notice that your lats and shoulders will get bigger and stronger and so some of you punching power will come from them but for the most part it will be from down up
