There are tons of students from different countries that come to my university for free because they have been allowed to exchange with other American students who went to their countries. I'm not sure how the system works, can someone explain it to me? I'm interested in Study Abroad exchange program.

  1. No, it doesn't mean you don't pay for it.  What happens is that each student pays tuition at their home institution, rather than paying at the university where they have gone for the exchange.  Obviously, that does mean that if you are at an expensive private institution in the U.S., some of the students who are visiting your school have paid far less than you are paying, perhaps even nothing if higher education in their country is fully government-subsidized.  It also means, though, that you will be paying the tuition rate at your own school, even if the school where you end up going has much lower tuition for its own students.

  2. no
