  1. Swimming is *excellent* cardiovascular exercise, but in order to lose weight you will need to combine it with weight training and sensible eating habits.

When I was in college, I swam three times a week and lifted weights twice a week. I didn't really need to lose weight at the time, but I had been pretty unfit before. After 2 semesters of doing this, I was much leaner and more toned, and had much more energy and endurance as well as sleeping better.

I think the key to using exercise for weight loss is to find an activity (or several) that you enjoy and will keep doing. If you like swimming, then by all means do that. If you find it tedious, you won't stick with it. Find something that you'll enjoy doing and that will get you moving!

  2. It might not necessarily reduce your weight, but it will definitely make you more toned and give you muscle instead of fat.

  3. Well, you will loose fat weight, but your muscles will start to harden up. And muscle weights more than fat.

So you might actually gain weight, but in a good way.

  4. i think no but i think yes

    i dont know

  5. I should think so. When swimming you expand a lot of energy and burn a lot of calories.

  6. Well, swimming is exercise, so it does make a difference.

  7. Yes.  Swimming is a great way to loose weight!

  8. yeah because swiming is part of exercise..

  9. Well, let's put it this way.

Swimming reduces fat because it's a very stupendous exercise. Thus, you might gain muscle, which is more heavier than fat due to solidification on the integuments. So, you might reduce fat, but probably not weight. But the weight your gaining will tone your body which won't make you look fat.

    :D

  10. Yes it can.

Swimmere need a LOT more energy than the daily recomendations.  If you're swimming to slim down, eat a LITTLE bit more than recomended, so you'll have the energy to swim.  Once you burn off those bits of calories, your body begins to consume the fat.

Note that this may take awhile because calories aren't burned incredibly quickly

Muscle will be more defined in the legs, unless you use those leg immobilizers in which case your arms will develop.

Try some lifting in conjunction with swimming.  This way you can burn those calories off the bat and go swimming for the fat burn.  Or maybe the other way around.  This will be a slow process, but it does work.

Remember to stay hydrated during the day.  Swimming IS a workout, and you sweat in the pool.  Eat many bananas for Potassium so you don't cramp up as much.

Always stretch out before swimming to further prevent cramping.

Remember to push yourself!  DO come out of the pool gasping for breath.  The harder you work the more it can pay off.  Done push yourself TOO hard or it could end badly for you because of a lack of energy.

Eat carbs!!!  Swimmers need energy from carbs.  Not simple carbs like candy and other c**p.  Eat breads and pastas for real long lasting energy.  Stay away from sodas and energy drinks.  Anything with caffine leads to a rather suck-ish crash.  Stay away from a high protein diet.  You're not looking to build muscle just yet.  Eat things in moderation!

Enjoy swimming!  Good luck with your goal!
