I am interested in taking taekwondo to get in shape and just for something new to do,but the only classes there are where I live are kinda expensive and I was wondering is it worth it? Anything you know about whether it helps you get in shape or whether it is any fun would help. Thanks.

  1. its fun, its dynamic, and sure does help with weight loss and fitness.

it also tones and leans muscles. but doesn't really increase their size.

im also sure the extra flexibility, strength, and stamina will come in handy.

  2. today there's alot of slackers in the martial arts that only dedicate maybe 2 days of practice to the martial arts.If you practice the art not necessarily rigorously but devotedly you will start to get fit and as you keep the regimen up you will really see a difference, especially with calisthenics in the regimen.

  3. Well it doesn't get you fit, I went there and really didn't change, I just learned how to defend myself.

At the class I took we really didn't work out besides a quick stretch and sparring.

If you want to get in shape do boxing, they work you out like crazy there, and you sweat a lot, trust me its a lot better for getting in shape.

  4. I do think that taekwondo will help you get in shape and help to tone your muscles.

  5. yes it does help you get in shape.  i have a girlfriend that used to take it. she was always excited about telling me how her muscles are getting stronger or tone, how its so fun to learn little fighting techniques and aiding techniques. things like hitting som1 in the nerve to your advantage or better blood flow and so forth. you should try looking for a community college nearby. they may have the class and for cheaper. best of luck.

  6. Yes, it definitely does.  Although I have to admit I've seen a lot of fat guys doing taekwondo.... I don't know why.

  7. I think that each school is different, I study TKD and have fun with and have lost weight, I started out at 357 lbs and now at 303 (I've been losing weight slowly been at TKD for 18 months) and I'm looking to hit the 275 mark in Feb. I started the art to get into shape and have fun. Now I'm one of the higher ranked members in the dojang and I train a lot more then just in classes.  TKD has changed my life for a positive.  I would recommend that you visit the school you are looking at and talk with the head instructor and/or master to learn more about their training ideas. If you feel comfortable with what they say then try for a month or so and see if you like(some schools will allow to take a free class or observe one).

  8. Yes because my son is taking classes and he has a 6 pack and he is only 10.

  9. Sure, it can help you get fit. It depends on the level of fitness you want to achieve. Tae will improve hand-eye coordination, flexibility, and agility. Other classes that I take at my gym are Bodypump, Kickboxing, and Bootcamp which are all high intensity levels of full body training. These are all GREAT to dramatically improve strength, stamina, and endurance. Go for it!

  10. You will get out of it what you put into it.

If weight loss is your goal, than TKD can help you achieve that goal, however, TKD alone is not enough.

You will get more flexible, and stronger, and it's alot more fun than spending an hour on the treadmill.
