  1. Of course it does! It's just an unconnected state!

  2. Australia is a Federation. There is a Federal Government that is the overall government for the country.

There are 6 States (with capitals)

    New South Wales (Sydney)

    Victoria (Melbourne)

    Queensland (Brisbane)

    South Australia (Adelaide)

    Western Australia (Perth)

    Tasmania (Hobart).

There are also two Territories, with self-government at a level slightly less than the States have (ie they get more Federal financial support as their populations are very small)

    Northern Territory (Darwin)

Australian Capital Territory (Canberra) (Canberra is also the capital of the whole country).

Each State and Territory has its own elected Government.

that's more than you asked for but it'll come in handy one day.

  3. Australia has 6 states and two territories. Tasmania is one of the states. Australia has a federal government which controls federal matters for all states and each state has its own state government which controls state matters.

  4. You do realise that Tasmania is IN Australia don't you? So we all have the same government.
