Does tea make you gassy?

I got some organic chai tea a couple days ago, and since drinking it, it's made me very gassy. I've been burping and farting up a storm. Is that a normal occurance? lol What's up with that? I don't have the same problem with green tea, which I've been drinking for years now. Also the chai seems to work like some sort of natural stool softener or something. o_O Someone please explain... cause I'm stumped.

  1. The spices in Chai are digestives -- black pepper, cardamom, ginger, cinnamon & clove are usual. It can be used to relieve gas and indigestion. When taken with or immediately following a meal, it might have the opposite effect. Try enjoying your tea after the meal has had time to leave the stomach, about 2 hours.

I have the same effect with Peppermint, which is a digestive. If I have food in my stomach, it gives me heartburn.

As for the laxative effect, every Chai formula is different. I'd have to see the ingredients to know which spice might be the culprit. Here are some to look for: Fenugreek, Licorice root, Fennel. Don't drink more than 1 cup per day. You might want to look at some other brands, too.

This is one of my favorite Chai blends and it is made w/ organic green tea: http://www.unclelee.com/product_info.php...

  2. Does the chai tea have any preservatives or flavorings perhaps that may be messing with your digestion??  if it contains any sweetners or added colorings then maybe that's your culprit .......... burping & far*ting are symptoms of lactose intolerance ...  hmmm, sounds strange that they'd put lactose in a tea, but who knows these days ....  geez, some of the things they put in our foods is mind boggling ......  check the ingredients list on the side of the packet mate ♥

    peace

    cheers
