Does temp affect air balloons?

Like lets say its early moring so its a little cold out and then as your in the air it warms up 30 degrees and the balloon goes higher or lower or explodes due to it :)

  1. The balloons efficiency depends on the air inside the balloon being higher temperature than the air outside so yes the cooler air helps.

    When I had my balloon ride it was early evening and the instructor advised the correct choice of flight time can add significant flight time due to less fuel being required.

    They don't explode either - don't worry about that, your hair gets a bit hot though when the burners are going full on but thats half the fun of it.


  2. The greater the temperature difference between the Hot air in the balloon compared to the relatively cooler air outside, the greater the lift.
