A classic question raised by Alan Partridge when viewing a house and discovering a school for the deaf was nearby.

What do you guys think? Would they create noise, or be relatively quiet? Hard one to call!

  1. my brother goes to a deaf school and i went to it for work experience last month.

i can definitely say they do make a h**l of a lot of noise.

because they're deaf it doesn't mean they don't have a voice. they cant tell how loud they are so they are generally quite loud.

  2. SOUND and NOISE are defined by the person (or ear) RECEIVING the vibrations in the air.

If it is "AUDIBLE" to any ear (Eg. excluding a deaf ear) than those vibrations are noise or sound.  In other words, if it "scares the crows away" then it is noise, or sound.

Noise and sound do not, by definition, have to be perceived by the "creator" of the "Noise".

The fact that the students in the near by school do not create "Noise" for one another does not exclude the "Noise" they create for their neighbors (or the crows).

  3. I reckon it's a bit like the philosophy question:

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around, does it make a sound? The answer to that question is yes. So my answer would be that all kids make noise regardless if the deaf or not. :D

  4. there deaf NOT blind.. whom ever is in charge can SEE if someone is acting in a loud way..
