Question:

Does the American Dream still exist?

With millions of people loosing their homes, national savings at the lowest it has been since the great depression, gas prices at $3.50/gallon, Groceries going through the roof, the price of a gallon of Orange Juice recently went up to $5.50, The cost of a college education is 25% higher than it was in 2000. Although the cost of everything is increasing, the earnings of the average American has barely moved in the last ten years.

There are many countries with stable economies and gas prices as low as .23/gal.

My questions are do you believe the American Dream is non-existent? Do you think it will ever live again? and Would you consider moving to a different (more economically stable) country if America heads deeper in this direction?

  1. the American dream died because Americans could not shake off their former masters, the British.

Americans need to reallise independence means independence and  from now on you'll do what I say, not, we got independence from you will still suck up to you as intellectual superiors and will giggle whenever you speak, like a giddy child, for the next 250 years

  2. dude where do you live?

gas is way more than 3.50 its like 3.90.

  3. The economy will get better. Just remember what goes up, eventually comes down.

  4. Yes. It exists in China.

  5. The American Dream is a fluid term. In the 50's it meant a house with a white picket fence (literally). Now it means a mansion, a car you can't afford, and other unrealistic material things. Dream is exactly what it is, and by definition, a dream is a minifestation of your imagination.

  6. The amreican dream is a night mare

and i did move to mexico  cross the border of san diego

love it live on the beach  nice  apartment  150 dollars lol one bedroom living room bath and kitchen

    in san diego  probably  750-1000

  7. The American Dream has never been attainable for me and all other people have done is look at me like I'm a looser for it.  I'm fed up with all the c**p and ready to move to another country where you don't have to die to make a living.

  8. it is as alive and well as ever, but that doesn't mean it is always realized, and it doesn't mean there will never be hard times, and it doesn't mean if you do everything right it will happen for you.  what it means is that the conditions are favorable for you if you put hard work and effort in to it, to go where ever you want.  all the gloom and doom talk is a little out of touch, i see my friends spending more than ever, i have it rough, but still better than a few years ago.  i had a heart attack and without a dime to my name walked into the hospital and had $80,000 worth of work done.  we don't have it so bad, we have just become complacent.  i think that country with the ,23 gal gas is Venezuela, yeah, go t live there...

  9. Yes I believe it is non existent......it shouldn't be, but it is. We have someone trying to run for president who happens to not be white, and some people will do anything to keep him from becoming president. As long as we have ignorant people in the world then I don't think it will ever live again.....and yes I would consider moving to a different country because if McCain wins....it will just be a repeat of what we are going through now, and living in another country will be the best bet....they are more worried about taking care of other countries anyway!!

  10. yea! their pizza is great! lol

  11. no b/c liberal socialist give the poor all the hardwrking classes money. their a sinking ship that cant be helped. they gotta help themselves

  12. Well, it is a tough time and the economy is quite rough.  With President Bush in office for the past eight years, our country is experiencing much damage.  However, I do not believe that the American Dream is completely tarnished.  The American Dream is a theory, so to speak.

The American dream is to accomplish desired goals through diligence and perserverance.  The United States is a capitalist society, and it encourages progress.  By having entreprenurial skills, management qualities, or academic strength, you can succeed by setting your mind to it.

But it is true that there is a recession going on.  The value of the dollar is weakening, the housing market is in the slumps, and GDP isn't exactly booming.  But the majority of these negative effects resulted from failed policy after failed policy and a terrible lack of judgment by the government.  I mean, in the Clinton administration, we were in surplus, and now, with 8 years of Bush, we have 10 trillion dollars of debt?!?!

I think once the administration changes next year, we can hope for the best.  I think moving to a different country is a little rash at this time - we can't have only ups forever.  If the country delves deeper into the crisis, then you could move only if you truly wanted to.  As for now, we'll just have to wait and see.

  13. nah its over

  14. The American Dream will always be a dream to other, comparatively. You are looking at all the negative things about this country but there a many more positive things. There is freedom, voting rights, a separation between church and state, jobs, well fare, retirement, etc.

  15. no
