  1. Vegetarianism and Veganism are not new inventions. They are new words. Hindi have practiced what amounts to Veganism for thousands of years.

As far as the Bible is concerned, early Genesis clearly states that humans are to be Vegetarians. After the flood permission is given unto Noah to eat of the flesh. Later in Dueteronomy, Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers, specific laws concerning the eating of flesh are given.

  2. It seems so, here's a small excerpt:

"It was said to them of old time, 'Honor thy Heavenly Father and thy Earthly Mother, and do their commandments, that thy days may be long upon the earth.' And next afterward was given this commandment, 'Thou shalt not kill,' for life is given to all by God, and that which God has given, let not man take away. For-I tell you truly, from one Mother proceeds all that lives upon the earth. Therefore, he who kills, kills his brother. And from him will the Earthly Mother turn away, and will pluck from him her quickening b*****s. And he will be shunned by her angels, and Satan will have his dwelling in his body. And the flesh of slain beasts in his body will become his own tomb. For I tell you truly, he who kills, kills himself, and whoso eats the flesh of slain beasts, eats of the body of death. For in his blood every drop of their blood turns to poison; in his breath their breath to stink; in his flesh their flesh to boils; in his bones their bones to chalk; in his bowels their bowels t o decay; in his eyes their eyes to scales; in his ears their ears to waxy issue. And their death will become his death. For only in the service of your Heavenly Father are your debts of seven years forgiven in seven clays. But Satan forgives you nothing and you must pay him for all. 'Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot; burning for burning, wound for wound; life for life, death for death.' For the wages of sin is death. Kill not, neither eat the flesh of your innocent prey, lest you become the slaves of Satan. For that is the path of sufferings, and it leads unto death. But do the will of God, that his angels may serve you on the way of life. Obey, therefore, the words of God: 'Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to everything that creepeth upon th e earth, wherein there is breath of life, I give every green herb for meat. Also the milk of every thing that moveth and liveth upon earth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given unto them, so I give their milk unto you. But flesh, and the blood which quickens it, shall ye not eat. And, surely, your spurting blood will I require, your blood wherein is your soul; I will require all slain beasts, and the souls of all slain men. For I the Lord thy God am a God strong and jealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; and showing mercy unto thousands -of them that love me, and keep my commandments. Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength: this is the first and greatest commandment.' And the second is like unto it: 'Love thy neighbour as thyself' There is none other commandment greater than these."

  3. No.   Vegetarianism is a modern invention that came about mostly through socio-economic reasons where people live very comfortable, easy lives and have the time and financial resources to take up such "causes".

If you were poor and hungry, and practically all you own is a scrawny goat, you WILL be drinking goat milk and when that goat gets old and dies, you WILL be eating roasted goat.

Vegans and vegetarians should be hugging a farmer every day for providing them the bounty that allows them to make this lifestyle choice without having to toil on their very own garden plot everyday.  And yet, we are constantly berated on this forum for practically being an environmental scourge.  It's deplorable.

  4. I don't know but I've never met an avid Christian that was also a full vegetarian.

Many Christians believe that because Jesus was a fisherman, humans shouldn't be vegetarians. At least that's what some hardcore omnivores have told me.

I like to think of the bible as a guideline, but some people can't think for themselves...every act they do has to correspond with what the bible "tells them". I am a vegan and a  less than strict Catholic. I doubt God would prevent anyone from going to heaven simply because they ate or didn't eat meat.

A lot of jews are veggies (Alicia Silverstone, Natalie Portman, etc.).

  5. Well, Adam and Eve were vegetarians. But then came the flood, and God gave animals for us to eat because there was nothing left. However, most people didnt go back to being herbivores, which is the most natural for us human beings. That is why our body can DIGEST meat... For survival situations, like the flood; but its certainly not healthy to eat like a lot of people do today.

  6. yes. The way we were intended to live is reflected in the Garden of Eden.  The bible states that we had everything necessary in the garden to sustain life, and we still do.

I believe it was after the flood, God allowed protien sources to be from animals for a time, but without the fall we would have never been eating them.

  7. The whole " There was no death or suffering of animals and humans before the fall of man." idea is a pretty big stretch from the few verses of Genesis concerning pre-fruit Eden.

Not to mention that the for the Biclical creation story to be true God would have to constantly violate his own laws of physics to keep thing running.

  8. Yes, and no.

It's very clear in Genesis that before the flood God intended that the vegetation of the earth be human food.

After the flood, however, God states than man may use animals for food.

  9. God has set  aside health laws for us.  We are to eat clean foods.  He states what unclean foods are.  Some people choose to be vegetarians for this purpose.  Unclean foods consist of anything that has a split hoof and chew the cud (Deuteronomy 14:6), Shellfish and catfish (Deuteronomy 14:9), "creeping  things" such as snails, frogs (Leviticus 11:21-47).

Here is a list of animals that are unclean:

    hogs

    squirrels

    rabbits

    catfish

    eels

    lobsters

    clams

    crabs

    shrimp

    oysters

    frogs

If you think about it, people that eat these items and don't follow the heath rules often are sick.  Those that follow the health laws are very healthy.  God grants health for those that follow his laws, in health and in the Ten Commandments.

  10. No, I don't think that is written in the Bible.  I recall reading about goats and sheep being killed and offered, as the smell of cooking meat was pleasing to the Lord.

  11. There is a biblical explanation for eating meat.

Originally Adam & Eve were both vegetarians, living in the Garden of Eden. But after the flood hit, and all vegetation was wiped out, God offered animals as food. It is considered a "privilige" to eat meat, but I disagree. In case you were wondering, I'm a vegetarian :)

God only offered animals because there was nothing left..all the food had been wiped out. However, we have so many other choices now and don't have to depend on meat for survival. Don't get me wrong, I could care less if other people want to eat it, but I personally am a little disgusted with the inhumane ways we raise & slaughter the animals.

    Hope I helped :)

  12. watch this video, show it to ur friends that believe in god and the bible

  13. At the time the first books of the Bible were being written, it was in Moses' time.  In fact, Moses is the author of the first five books of the Bible (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy, Numbers).

At that time, they were already eating meat.  According to what Moses wrote, meat was not eaten by the Israelites until after the flood of Noah's time.

Adam and Eve ate only a meatless diet.  As more and more humans were born and spread out apart from the line that led to the Israelites, they may have began eating meat before the Israelites did.  However, the Israelite line did not eat meat until Noah.

  14. God gave us dominion over animals and last time I checked, dominion does not mean 'eat'.

  15. I'm no biblical scholar, but I think the bible "states" whatever people want it to state.  I don't believe in using the bible to back a certain diet.  (I'm a vegetarian.)

  16. No. Are you thinking of the story of Daniel asking not to eat the king's meat and wine, but rather vegetables and water? That was because the meat was offered to idols as a sacrifice. And God did say to the Jews that there were certain types of meat that were clean, and those that were unclean.

So Christians shouldn't eat halal meat, as it is killed in a special way specific to Islam.

  17. I would say yes. But also say no, because of the great feast. Adam and Eve didn't eat meat until they ate the forbidden fruit.

  18. Not that I am aware of.

  19. i think that god made us how we are now to allow us to make our own descisions. one of our descisions may have been to eat meat

  20. We did a project about this last year in school.  What we concluded was that god originally wanted every animal to be a vegetarian. But after Noah's flood he permitted humans to eat meat.  Supposedly when the true messianic age comes neither humans or animals will eat meat.

  21. We are born not eating anything. When is the last time you saw a baby pop out with some Taco Bell?

  22. I don't know and I don't care. If it does it's only relevant to a minority of the world's population - Christians.

The rest of the world sets no store by what the bible says. Many people regard it as a work of fiction.

If you don't believe in a god - and I don't - his/her supposed intentions as regards diet are of no interest
