  1. Every province, every state, the original (or notatized copy) is required.  I am a licenced insurance broker, vehicle registrations agent, and driver licence issuer.  There are very few documents for which copies are allowed, because then we would have a copy of a copy in our records, and we could not testify as to the validity of the document if called upon to do so.  Copies can normally only be accepted in exceptional circustances as supporting documents for other original documents.

    Only the original or a certified copy of one of the following documents is acceptable:

    US Birth Certificate
