  1. Well, in the US, they teach that there are 7 continents.  They divide North America into one continent and Central and South America into another, including the Caribbean.

If you are taught that there are 6 continents, then the Caribbean is part of the American Continent.  If you are taught that there are 7 continents, then the Caribbean is part of the South American Continent.

  2. geopolitically, yes.  geographically, no; islands by definition are not part of a continent.

  3. The Americas?  As in the continents North and South?  Or as in the United States?

The Caribbean is associated with the Americas, I suppose, as it is off the coast of the American landmasses.

No one nation owns it.  Its a sea.  No one owns international waters.  What more can I say to that?

The islands in the sea, however, are owned... and thus the water immediately around them for a couple of miles.

A few of the islands comprise independent nations... but many are territories or autonomous region of other nations.  Some are still colonies of Europe

  4. North America, yes.

  5. Yes

  6. the Americas isn't a continent, so no.

  7. Belows?
