Does the GPS work like google earth?

Would it be useful to take one with you when travelling to locate the landmarks in the city?

  1. Similarities:

    They both have maps.  They both have points of interest.  They both can show the location of addresses and provide driving directions.

    Differences:

    Google Earth connects through the Internet to provide all of the map data and aerial photography.  GPS receivers rely on maps loaded on the unit's memory.  Most GPS receivers do not have aerial photos.  

    A GPS receiver would be useful in a strange city you are touring.  The GPS receiver would be able to help you drive from one attraction to the next, assuming you get a GPS receiver that provides driving directions.
