Please answer my question and don't post the opening statement on the Hope Scholarship description. All it says is that it pays for tuiton and hope approved mandatory fees. i want to know if room and board falls under that category.

  1. Basically what happens is the amount of your scholarship is sent directly to your school. Whatever charges you have on your account (tuition, fees, dorms, parking, etc) are paid for with that amount from HOPE, with your fees and tuition being paid first. Anything remaining is your responsibility, unless you also get FASFA.

At least, that's how it was for me at UGA. HOPE allos some $300+ for "books" but since the whole amount was automatically deposited into my student account for payment to the school - all that happened was that $300 went towards my "tuition" and I paid for my own books. Make sense? Kind of?

If all fees are handled by separate departments at your school (for instance, if you have to actually pay directly to housing rather than paying the school itself), you may have to make sure that your HOPE pays for that.
