  1. Actually, no, blame insurance company lobbyists (and their money) for this intrusion upon our rights.

  2. If you have plenty of money and will pay for the consequences, do what you want.  But if your injuries raise my insurance rates or if your injuries are paid for by tax payers, I believe that we the people have the right to restrict your actions, which is often done through legislative action by the statesmen we elect to serve us.

    A seatbelt will not always save you, and sometimes by a fluke, someone without a seatbelt might survive while someone with a seatbelt did not.  That can happen, but the odds are far better when you wear a seatbelt.  I'll bet on the seatbelt -- and keeping the children in the back seat..

  3. Yes they do and more people are saved by them by far than those who were killed in a wreck wearing them.

  4. You are putting the lives of others in danger as well as putting your family and friends through a living nightmare if you were injuried or worse killed.

  5. "Does the Govt. have the right to make us wear seat belts?"

    Legally - yes. They gave themselves that "right".

    Morally and ethically - NO!

    It may not be unConstitutional but it is definitely unAmerican!

  6. Actually its the insurance companies, they have lots of money and they don't want to spend it on casualties.  Believe me- if it were left up to the gov't, there would be no seat belts.

  7. sure they do since we have turned over all our rights to the government;

  8. No, but the state does.

  9. Of course they have  -  a lot of people

    are too stupid to realize themselves how

    dangerous it is without them  !

  10. Technically, the Government probably does not have the right. (The State are also part of the Government.) It is also impossible to legislate intelligence, of lack thereof.

    I too, know people who have been hurt due to seatbelts, and airbags. I also know people who have walked away from accidents where they should have been killed because they were wearing a seatbelt. I'm one of those people. (Jackknifed tractor-trailer, and rolled the tractor. I needed help getting out of the cab, but walked away on my own.)

    When you don't wear seatbelts, you could be indangering others. Seatbelts will hold you in the seat, and if you are driving, will keep you fat the steering wheel. I have yet to see someone get thrown from the driver's seat of a vehicle, yet still have control of the vehicle.

    I don't like seatbelts, any more than I like wearing helmets on motorcycles. But experience has shown me the inconvience of using either one is smarter than the comfort of not using them.

    Yes, I do use seatbelts and motocycle helmets.
