Question:

Does the IRS do polygraph tests to hire you? Can past drug use disqualify you?

I am 21 years old and I am an accounting student interested in careers in the IRS. Currently I am very opposed to drug use and I don't do anything. However when I was 18 I smoked pot occasionally did shrooms and tried cocaine 4 times. I also once sold my buddies some pot I had! Probably a few times not for profit though.

I basically was down this nasty road until I was 19 then decided it was ruining my life and quit!

If I don't do anything or plan to do anything can I score a job as an agent when I graduate with an MS and BA in accounting when I am 24?

I really regret the use now more than ever! =(

  1. It depends on what kind of job you're applying for. Some jobs require more extensive background investigations than others do. Applicants for jobs in the Criminal Investigation division are the most scrutinized. I don't believe polygraph tests are administered.
