Does the Ipod touch need a internet connection?

Thanks for those that answered my previous question...

I thought I read that the ipod touch has built in wifi so you can go on anytime. This didn't seem correct. The ipod touch works off of other wifi signals, right?

  2. Yeah. It is built in, but you can't go on ANYTIME, unless you have a WiFi hotspot near you. I think you can get EDGE for the iPod Touch, I'm not sure though, that allows you to go online whenever.

  3. The Touch uses WiFi being broadcast by other networks, so whenever WiFi is accessible you can browse the internet on it. By "built-in WiFi", the mean that it has the ability to use these signals to connect.

    So, yes, it works off of other signals.

    Also, to clear this up, you can not get EDGE or 3G on the iPod Touch, only the iPhone.
