  1. p90 dominates. nuff

  2. the MP5 was revolutionary for it's time because it was the first major submachinegun built like an assault rifle, in fact it was basically an H&K G33, except in 9mm not 5.56, it uses the same closed bolt roller-locked delay blowback, which is a step up from closed bolt straight blowback, and three steps up from the more traditional 'open bolt'

However, in truth it has a lot more accuracy than a 9mm weapon needs.  Who cares if it can shoot 1MOA, and gives a 3 inch group at 300 yards, the 9x19 is just too low powered to matter at those ranges, as long as you can get a 3 inch group at 100 yards, everything else is excess.

Plus, now there are a lot of other submachineguns out there that are basically assault rifles redesigned to handle 9mm parabellum ammo and that cost about 30% of what the MP5 does.  Heck, H&K dropped the G33 for the G41 that could take M-16 magazines, had a 3 shot burst feature, and was much less expensive to make, and then switched to the G36 for an even less expensive model that was more modular.  They basically did the same thing with the H&K UMP smg, which costs half what the MP5 does.

It is long past time to ditch the MP5 for other types of 9x19mm subguns.

As far as the p90 goes, the ammo in the magazines tends to go all hinky when jarred hard, causing jams and fail-to-feed, that is a very serious problem.  Second, 5.6 just doesn't do much in the way of wounds. Sure, it is better than 9x19 for gonig through armor, but against unarmored targets plain old 9mm FMJ are a little better, and 9mm JHPs are much better.

Finally, to really be quiet in conjunciton with a supressor, you need sub-sonic ammo.  To get below the sound barrier, 5.6 uses heavier-than-normal 5.6 bullets on a smaller powder charge, so in the realm of a very quiet SMG, 9x19 outperforms 5.6

#1 MP5 should be retired anyways to make way for less expensive SMGs that are equally capable, including the H&K UMP

#2 9mm vs 5.6, each is situationally more useful than the other.

#3 P90, still has some real bugs to work out before it is reliable enough to be a serious combat/war weapon

#4 the era of the SMG is dying, the PDW is the SMG in it's death throes, because you can design a 5.56 extra short assault rifle that handles like a SMG and punches armor and wounds better than a PDW.

  3. The P90 is better but I personally still use the MP5... no idea why.

  4. Not much besides the fact that it's a little bit smaller. Th P90 fires a 5.7 round MP5 champers 9mm. As far as power goes, the P90 has it, the 5.7 was only aloud for purchase by police and military up until a few years ago because it will defeat most soft body armor, 9mm doesn't. other than that, they both have similar benefits, compact size, high rate of fire, hig mag cap, etc. It's really a personal preference thing.

  5. Navy seals use the MP5 that's good enough for me. However you can't beat 50 rounds per Magazine.

  6. The MP5 makes a bigger hole.  The bullets for the P90 are 5.7mm in diameter, the ones for the MP5 are 9mm in diameter.  This is a significant difference.  Also, the bullets for an mp5 weigh better than twice what the P90 ones do.  Simply put, the MP5 does more damage per round.

The MP5 also has a better balance and feel than a P90.  It's easier to maneuver, aim, and control.

The one advantage the P90 has is ammunition capacity.  An MP5 carries 30 rounds, a P90 carries 90 or 100.  However, it takes more ammo from a P90 to do the same work as an MP5.

  7. The only real advantage the MP5 has over the P90 is being chambered for the 9mm cartridge.

9mm is a NATO cartridge and is one of the only cartridges where it can be found being used in ANY country. (USA, Germany, UK, doesn't matter)

Also, 9mm is like the .45ACP, they'll never stop making it.

  8. The MP-5 has class and style. It feels better in my hands.

The MP-5 has had numerous years to get the bugs worked out and it looks like a real gun too.

Besides that the MP-5 does not have anything over the P90.
