  1. So... this is a repost from something I answered before but these are basically the reasons why I consider the Marines to be the most elite branch of the Armed Services:

The Marine Corps is considered the hardest military branch. You must have a high school diploma (or GED & 15 college credits). You have to pass meet their physical standards. You have to pass the ASVAB (though the Navy & Air Force require higher minimum entrance scores).

They offer MOS's in basically every field you can think of and many can easily transfer into civilian jobs.

Their boot camp is considered to be the hardest. And at 13 weeks it is the longest.

Also, a Marine can transfer to any other branch without going through the new branches basic training but anyone who transfers into the Marines from another branch must complete the entire Marine boot camp.

And Marine Force Recon is the only group that is eligible to attend Every Special Force school offered, but no other Special Forces may attend Marine Force Recon school.

Marines are the "first in" in any conflict world-wide.

The Marines protect the President, fly the President around, have the "President's Own" band.

They guard every American embassy in the world.

How I would rank all the Armed Forces would depend on what you're basing the ranking on as they all are known for different things.

  2. The Marines are the elite of all the branches.

  3. well, each has a different purpose: air force-air. navy-water. army-land. then, altho the marine corps is a department of the navy, it covers all three air, water, and land. ok, all of them cover all areas pretty much, but they speicialize in one more than the others.

now, marine corps training is the toughest and longest. they are also the first ones in and last ones out. they do all this on the smallest budget and with old, second hand gear/equipment. basically, the marine corps is the most challenging. therefore, they could almost be considered above the rest, altho everyone has a part and we all have to work together.

as far as them looking down on the others, yeah it happens. marines get real cocky and figure no one matches up to them bc of what they have to go thru. keep in mind, once you go to marine corps boot camp, you can switch to another branch and not have to do that boot camp. whereas if you wanted to switch to the marines from anything else, you would have to go thru boot again. make sense?

  4. They all serve and protect us.  And, I suppose it would also depend on who you ask!

  5. i know that the marines have the hardest training. but thats all i know.

  6. Well... Marines are regarded as having the "hardest" boot camp.

However, that is just boot camp. Real training comes from your unit. Infantry in the Army and infantry in the Marines are the same. They execute similar missions and accomplish them with the same amount of effectiveness. Infantry is infantry no matter which branch. (if you've spent some combat time with both branches, you'd understand). That's like saying a Marine finance women is better than an Army infantry soldier from say the 82nd or 3rd ID. Completely biased and inaccurate. Everyone serves their purpose.

However, when you compare a regular Marine to a regular Army solider, etc., you'll notice they are usually a little more disciplined.

Marines are not above all, and your question is quite stupid. And to the individual that said Marines are "Special Forces"... well you seem to be misinformed. The Marine Corp is an entire branch, Special Forces is an Army unit. There are, however, Special Operations within the Marine Corp, such as the newly established MARSOC and older Force Recon units. These units are on par with other Special Operations units from the Army, Airforce, and Navy... but not above. Everyone has their unique specialty.

There is no ranking... it depends on what you do within each branch that decides what caliber person you are.

Don't even try to put the entire Marine Corp in the same ranks as those units under USSOC. Everyone has a purpose and all branches, regardless of MOS, deserve a little respect.

  7. They are the most well rounded. However all military forces serve the same purpose of defending our freedom.

  8. The Marines are the largest 'Special Forces' group in the world.

This means that they are the least selective 'Special Forces' group in the world.

I have respect for everyone who serves.

Edit: Their training is not the hardest. Ever heard of UDT/SEALs?

The hardest part of Marine training is the 10 mile run at the end with a 40 lb pack.

  9. i'm a sailor, and i have the pleasure of going out in the field with the marine corps.

no one ranks higher than another, i believe its a case of who is tougher, smarter etc.

personally, in the field i work in for the Navy i have dealt with people from all branches and have formed my own opinions,  you will have to do the same.  in the end, if you serve you rank higher than any civilian!!!
