  1. Unless the MiG 25 has had a modification to it's power-plants I believe the F-15E still holds the record for being the fastest fighter.

  2. According to Viktor Belenko, the Soviet pilot who checked into Japan with  MiG-25 in 1975, the MiG-25 was forbidden to be flown above Mach 2.8.  Any faster would destroy the engines.  This confirmed an intelligence report of a Syrian MiG-25R landing back at it's airbase after an overflight of Israel, with destroyed engines.  It practically had to deadstick back to base.

The SR-71 is by far and away, the faster of the two aircraft.

  3. The X-15 is the fastest manned aircraft but the SR71 still is the fastest operational aircraft.  The Mig 25 is the fastest interceptor at Mach 3.2.  Below is a link to a chart of the worlds fastest aircraft.

  4. There are several aircraft that have so much thrust they can exceed their airframe speed limits.

The Mig-25 was reported to have speeds higher than the SR-71  (measured in MPH, not Mach) but these were well above the safe operating speed of the aircraft.  2,385MPH for the Mig-25 and 2,275MPH for the SR-71

It's the same when people say the SR-71 is faster than published.  Sure it can go faster than Mach 3.3, but it's at the expense of safety and airframe and engine reliability.
