Does the NHL overate Crosby or underate Zetterberg?

I keep hearing about how great Crosby is but Zetterberg dominated him all Series long, does the media just think we all love Crosby and are blind to great all around hockey that Zetterberg plays. I didn't see Crosby on one penalty kill all series long. Congrats to Hank and the Wings!

  1. honestly i don't know about the zetterberg issue, all i know is i personally think crosby is over rated, whiny and my god, someone could breathe on the boy and he'd go down like he was shot. and the # 87 thing...give me a break the year you were born. i just really can't stand him. i hope he turns into nothing and proves everyone wrong! thats my rant for the day:)

  2. Would you like some cheese with that whine?

Let me guess, you're a Detroit Red Wings fan.

Didn't the NHL award the Conn-Smythe trophy to Zetterberg?  That doesn't sound, to me, like the NHL is underrating Zetterberg.

    .

  3. I think all the Red Wings did good but I think Chris Osgood also did very well this season.

  4. I feel that Crosby is way overrated, his name was said more than any player by the announcers the whole series ("Crosby needs to play more minutes if they want to pull off this series" Talking about him even when he's not on the ice), Zetterberg was praised appropriately. I think Malkin played alot better than Crosby the whole series!

  5. underrate Zetterberg

  6. They do both.

  7. I think Crosby was put under the microscope and the expectations are so high, at such a young age, that he's never going to attain those things, which makes him look overrated.

I think everyone expected more out of him this series, but fact remains his a kid, and ehe has a long career ahead of him, where he'll spend that time proving himself.

For this series, in particular, I do think Zetterberg was a little overlooked but then whe he was mentioned it was like an anvil, very "oh yeah! he rules!"

  8. Yes people, let's not forget he's 20 years old.  They placed the NHL on his shoulders and expect him to carry it.  He's only in his 3rd season.  It's his first Stanley Cup (got there one year sooner than Gretzky).  Why do people continue to pick on him?  He's had no time to prove what he can do.  He's TWENTY.  Lay off.  And btw, Crosby doesn't dive anymore than any other player in the NHL does.  The only reason people notice him and say that is because the spotlight is constantly on him.

  9. Both. Zetterberg mad Crosby dissapear in the Finals and had the offensive touch to pull the Conn Smythe. Hanks one of the best defensive forwards in the game

  10. ^ go back to the Movies section... where your life is all about fiction!

  11. I think Zetterberg is more underrated than Crosby is overrated.

  12. The league absolutely overates Crosby...he is not Gretzky or Lemieux and never will be, however Zetterberg is more like Forsberg in his hay-day but with more goal scoring ability.

  13. Firstly the NHL does neither. It does not rate players it provides a forum to watch the players perform.

The fans and more precisely the media does the rating. The educated media has never done this. The EM has wondered at how Detroit found this wonder in the zth round and is paying him less that Darcey Tucker to do what he does? The bandwagoners and puck bunnies rate Sidney at the dizzying heights and ignore Hank. Those in the know never got confused. Will Crosby be better than Zetterberg in the long run. probably but today Hank's the winner.

  14. Honestly, I am fine with them "underrating" Hank.  There is so much hoopla and circus surrounding Crosby that people are more or less getting irritated with it (unless your a Pitts fan or into hockey for omg the totally s**y hockey player guy).  Z is an excellent all around player and the Wings don't care to have any prima donnas on their team.  It takes away from the game of hockey and turns it into the circus.  We are the Detroit Red Wings... each player makes up our team... whereas Pitts has the Penguins... and its made up of Sid and his teammates.

  15. The media reports on what they think will gather the most viewers/listerners/readers, etc.  God bless Zetterburg...I love him dearly...but one of the first things I heard about Crosby was that he was the next Wayne Gretzsky.  People who aren't even hockey fans know who Gretzsky is (btw, his brothers coached and played for my hometown's now extinct pro team...that was interesting), so for the media they knew that Crosby was a huge story.  Then everyone latched on, the hype grew, people got interested in "Sid the Kid," and BAM...the media will plug Crosby as much as they possibly can.  I mean they showed him scoring a goal after the Red Wings scored a goal...that just proved everything.

It's life.  If Zetterburg had been called the next Wayne Gretzsky before his first NHL game, he would have all the hype too.  The media focuses on one thing:  getting the most people possible to tune into them.  And when they see something that can get the most people tuned into them, they will latch on for dear life.

  16. I think that the NHL and the media has latched onto Crosby and that is all they want to talk about. Zetterberg is not as pretty and he didn't come into the league with as much hype... and the media types alot of times... especially sportscenter.... have no idea who is any good becasue they all just watch the Bosox and the celtics. So I think it is a little of both

  17. I agree that Zetterberg deserved the Conn Smythe, and I also agree that you rarely see Crosby on the penalty kill.

Zetterberg was just great during that playoffs.  Even though the media loves Crosby, we can't deny that kid is also amazing.

  18. Both, but I now think Zetts will get his due- winning the Conn Smythe sure is a step in that direction.

Crosby is the real deal...but certainly not on the Other-Worldly level that the NHL media puts him.
