  1. There's a big difference between the variety of food available on a large naval base or a big ship like an aircraft carrier, and what you can expect on a small ship or somewhere in the field.

    But if you're in the Navy, they tell you where you are going to spend the next x months, and you can't always be picky.

Most chow halls/messes in the Armed Forces offer a wide range of food for you to choose from so you should not have much of a problem sticking to your vegetarian diet unless you are on a sub - the sub jockeys will usually go out and 'fish' for fresh seafood on a fairly regular basis in order to supplement their ship's store.  The only other time I think that it might be a problem if you were ever stationed shore side and forced to consume MREs - there are not many veggie options in the Meals Ready to Eat department.

  3. I heard frm a friend in Singapore... they do not condemn vegetarianism.
