Question:

Does the Patriot Act limit the sale of firearms?

We all know the Patriot Act allows the government to secretly wiretap our phones, read our emails, allows the FBI to conduct warrentless searches of our homes, allows the government to detain people (including citizens) for an indefinite period of time without charge and without legal representation, make us take off our shoes at the airport, et cetera.

But does the Patriot Act prohibit or limit the sale of guns?

It only makes sense to me that since the Patriot Act is meant to keep Americans safe, it would include provisions to strictly regulate the sale of firearms, prohibit the sale of certain firearms, and include stronger registration/background checks on the sale of those firearms that would still be legal.

Can any Islamic terrorist lunatic (who has no prior record, and there are a lot) purchase a fully automatic weapon, or sniper rifle, at a gun show with minimal (or no) background check?

Is this simply an "oversight", an inconsistency, or a bow down to the NRA?

Does the Patriot Act pick-and-choose the rights of Americans it abrogates?

  1. politicians don't need the patriot act to s h i t all over the 2nd amendment, they do it anyways. YAY!!!!

  2. You are suffering from a serve case of BDS.  You have shown that you can wright but not that you can read.  Get  a copy of the Patriot Act before you dribble again. remember if the Democrats get in in Nov the patriot Act will not be canceled, they VOTED for it also.

  3. There are about 2000 gun laws on the books and not a single one of them can prevent a criminal from getting a gun.

If criminals can get them, the "law abiding" terrorists can, too.

When you restrict a right out of concern for what a person may do with it, it ceases to be a right.

Removing the right of access to guns by lawful citizens would be like cutting off tongues to prevent abuse of the right of speech.

Private ownership of firearms is like thought; it can't be stopped.
