I figured most Filipino families would rather take care of their elderly themselves... but I was just curious.

  1. We have one nursing home located at the back of SM North, beside Quezon City Science High School (Misamis St., Bago Bantay, Q.C.) - the GOLDEN ACRES, HOME FOR THE AGED. It provides care to senior citizens, 60 years old and above, both male and female who are abandoned, neglected, unattached, dependent and needy.

  2. There are a lot and there at least 1 or 2 elderly homes per province run by the govt or religious groups.

But these are for elderly people whose families are very poor and cannot afford to take care of them in terms of their long term medical needs. Some are simply abandoned by their children or do not have relatives anymore.

  3. Yes. Golden Acres -- Hospicio de San Jose in Manila.

But I doubt Filipinos would let their oldies stay in those places. Pinoys would rather take care of them than send them there.

  4. Contrary to the first two answerers, there are actually nursing homes in the Philippines. The most well known and probably one of the pioneers is Golden Acres which is located in Quezon City, near SM North EDSA. There are other nursing homes as well, though perhaps not as numerous or common as in the US. While it's true that in the Philippines, families care for their elderly, there are also those who for some reason end up homeless. Some are abandoned, some have no relatives to care for them.

There are also some nursing homes that have sprung up to cater to elderly foreigners who wish to retire in the Philippines but do not have any relatives in the Philippines. One such home is the Rose Princess Home 1 in Cabuyao, Laguna which caters to elderly Japanese who find living in Japan on a pension expensive.

  5. Yes it is called family. That is what makes the Philippines so great.

  6. they call it "home for the aged" in the Philippines...

  7. It is not a Filipino culture to leave the oldies to such places. For most, it just means that the oldies are abandoned. I guess so.

  8. If there is it's only for Americans that have transplanted there, Filipinos dont use Nursing Homes. They use Family.

  9. Never seen or heard of such a thing. Yes most families take care of their elderly themselves or the rich ones hire a caregiver.
