Does the Playstation 2 automatically shut off when not in use?

Question

I bought a Playstation 2 today (I know, I'm behind the times.) Stupidly I didn't get a memory card so I can't save any games I play. I just wanted to know, if I play a game and then go to bed and leave the system on - will it shut itself off or will it stay on until morning when I can go out and buy a memory card? And if it DOES have an automatic shut down feature, can I disable it easily?

nope it doesnt automatically shut down. I've kept it on over 24 hours straight, playing the 24 hour nurburgring course in GT4 in directors mode

There is no auto shutdown feature on the PS2 that I am aware of.

no it will stay on unless u get a power cut or sum1 presses the power button. If u got the slim ps2 notice that the power adapter will get very hot when u play for hours so dont keep that covered.

I have left mine on for over 24 hours with no activity. It got hot, but never shut off.

I also left the game on overnight like you're asking (playing Gran Turismo 4 endurance races, haha). No problems.
