The miniDV tape Handycams come with a USB cable to transfer stills from the memory card. The video from the tape is imported using firewire... and they typically do not include that cable in the box.

The Hard drive Handycams generally come with USB cable for transferring files from the camcorder hard drive to the computer. But video quality is not as good as miniDV tape.

The DVD based Handycams should be recalled by the manufacturers and people who bought them should get their money refunded because the video captured from them is that bad.

If you want to know what is supposed to come in the box with the cam corder, go to the support area of sony.com and download the camcorder's manual. Within the first 10 pages or so there lists the stuff that comes in the box.
