  1. Those dates are based on solar phenomena, so should not change.  Spring and Fall each begin on the day the sun's apparent path crosses the equator.  Summer and Winter each begin on the day the sun's apparent path is farthest from the equator, reaching either the Tropic of Cancer in the Northern Hemisphere or the Tropic of Capricorn in the Southern Hemisphere.

  2. It might make sense to choose the warmest three month period, but that would be different for each location.  Where I live (near San Diego) the warm weather usually comes later, often during the fall instead of summer. I think the dates chosen are something of a compromise, they are close to the approximate meteorological seasons at most locations, and they are easily defined.

  3. the reason summer, spring, winter, and fall are the dates they are on the calendar is because of where the sun hits on the earth, not the temperature. Summer begins when the sun directly hits the Tropic of Cancer, Fall and Spring when the sun is hitting the equator, and Winter, when the sun hits the Tropic of Capricorn.

  4. The change in temperature is slow so summer may have began but you didnt feel it yet, there wont be a change anytime soon
