Does the UK use any sewage methane gas traps for fuelling any of our powerstations?

Australia does. Why doesn't the UK?

Or do they secretly use methane to fuel power stations without telling us? Basically, could they easily be making energy and money from our own waste and not telling us?

  1. yes they make energy from all modern landfill sites, the information is all out there, no secrecy, and the money made does not cover the cost of collecting the rubbish and running the landfill site but it does make it more economic.

In 2006, 30% of renewable energy in the UK was generated from landfill gas.

  2. South Thames sewage works has its own generator which used methane gas from sewage.

  3. I am almost sure there is some form of energy production with the waste gas. We use it in our system at work to power industrial engines that process our waste here in California. The landfill next door has a grid of pipes at different levels to collect the gas from their mountain of garbage. They power even bigger engines to power huge generators that put power into the power grid. Its all free energy like the oil companies product. Only thing is they gouge us for money more than utilities like mine.

  4. Not for power, for heating! local govnmt buidings,We used to generate, our own power using Gas Engines they were old an inefficient, at a council meeting I had 7mins to show them how to generate power & heat from poo! They thanked me for my input & moved on about an effin statue to someone who I've never heard of!Is'nt nice to know that our progressive Local Govnmt is Listening?
