I am re-enlisting to become a Arabic linguist for the Army, and would like to pick a duty station in a country where my target language is spoken.

Thanks all.

  1. A few years ago Cp Doha Kuwait was a one year no dependent tour but don't know now.  Kuwait has other permanent posts but getting one will take a lot of work I think.  Also most Embassies does have a military slot mostly for officers though.  Have to go though your DA branch who has all the slots you could possibly get

  2. You're RE-enlisting in the Army and haven't yet learned that the Army will station you where it wants you?  But if you're looking to specify a preference, I'm not aware of most Arabic countries having a permanent U.S. base presence.  Turkey, being part of NATO, comes to mind, but the official language of Turkey is Turkish.  Still, you'll probably see a lot of Arabic spoken there.

Are there U.S. military installations in Israel?  Even though technically it's not an Arabic speaking country, there's still a lot of Arabic spoken there.

  3. My oldest son is in the Army and is going to Qatar.

But be realistic, if you speak Arabic, the Army is going to post you where you do the most good, no matter what you may think your role in the greater scheme of things is.

No matter what anyone says, nobody "picks" their duty station.  If they are good at what they do, the Army figures that out pretty quickly.

  4. How about Iraq?

  5. no i dont think there are any permanent duty stations in the middle east, good luck at DLI, i have family that went there and its not easy

  6. Kuwait has a major base for Army and Airforce.  Is been there since the after the first Gulf War, troop might be withdrawn, but i think U.S. would try to negotiator for a base in Iraq.  This could be the reason why U.S. and Iraq still not  had a agree timetable, as for Afghanistan's, we present there will be a long time, there's many temporary base, Duty in the middle east are consider deployment not permandend duty, you can't go over 2 years, but some people wanted stay as long as possible, due to tax free and danger duty pay etc..

  7. No all of the US military are in America waiting for Saddam Hussain to invade` Google him you might have heard his name mentioned.

  8. There are many bases in the Middle East, but none that could be called permanent.

Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia all have US bases but all may not be Army.

  9. coming soon: Permanent Posts/ Bases in lovely, beautiful

    Iraq, Iran, & Afghanistan!

  10. You're serious, right?..and you're "re-enlisting"!

    How about:

    Kuwait

    Iraq

    Afghanistan (some dialects)

You could also do TDY to Lebanon (air bridge), and Egypt.

Guarantee you won't need to "pick a duty station" you're headin' for the sandbox...
