I'm thinking of going on a cheap trip to South America and I was interested in Ecuador. Does the dollar go far? If so, what are some things that are cheap? Also, how much do common things cost on average. For example, gas on average costs ______, cigarettes cost _____. I'm just trying to get an idea of whether or not I can afford the trip. Thanks a lot!!!

  3. The dollar went pretty far when I was there 2000-2001. I have no idea about the gas, but a pack of cigarettes was around 80 cents.

    Other approximates I recall:

    Decent dinner: $3

    City bus: 24 cents

    Taxi trip: $1-4

Night out at the bar: $15

    Monthly rent: $100

I'm sure everything went up, but probably not so much.

  4. i went ther last summer to ambato ec i was great! actually they only have dollars now...food very very cheap... bus 18 cents to 2 dollars if ur goin far...taxi one dollar to 2 withn 5 miles or so...clubs 5 and under...drinks 1-3 bucks...i dont know about hotels i stayed at my aunts...clothes and shoes expensive! gas is about the same as here maybe a lil less...mmm well things are more expensive in the capital....but more things to do there...it really depends on what ur gonna do over there...like hiking or cayaking thats expensive like 70 bucks... or goint to see the water falls and all these lakes and the volcanoe that exploded last year i got to see it. it was amazing sad but pretty cool...so u have to know where to go or else u need to go on tours and they are expensive but if u know wher these places are at then it pretty cheap to go on ur own!well hope this was helpfull...
